Castlemead Farm near Radstock in Somerset is run by Stuart Perkins who is a third generation farmer. Stuart has been passionate about chickens from the age of 10 and believes that traditional farming methods handed down from generation to generation of small-scale poultry farmers produce healthy, longer-grown, wonderfully flavoured poultry.
Stuart’s high-welfare chickens have fresh bedding and constant access to food and water providing the best welfare standards possible. From morning to nightfall, the chickens are free to explore the fields surrounding their houses, incorporating natural goodness into their diets to complement their feed of locally grown cereals. At night they retire to their houses for protection from the fox and a good night’s sleep. Stuart’s chicken are unrestricted in the area they can roam in, and he never uses antibiotics.
